Perchtenlauf, Eugene Oregon, January 2014

Eventually I decided to organize my own mumming procession, based on the Perchtenlauf (to honor the goddess Perchta), here in Eugene, Oregon. I put up flyers and ads online to find people interested in participating. We had several planning meetings, and everyone worked on their costumes. We gathered after dark and walked a mile-long route through downtown, chanting and shouting and howling and making a wild noise. We had many different types of costumes represented. Following are the three I made (for myself and two friends), and photos from the event, plus a video.

We put some of our masks and props on the statue in Kesey Square where we ended our procession.
